JUNIN; Tarma Interconnection - La Merced - Túnel Yanango

The Yanango Tunnel is an underground road, located in the department of Junín, Peru; streamlining traffic from west to east and vice versa. It has a length of 1,025 meters making it the second longest rock-cut tunnel in Peru, after the Punta Olímpica de Áncash tunnel. It has three lanes, two lanes from San Ramón to Tarma and one lane from Tarma to San Ramón.

The investment reached 92 million soles. The tunnel was inaugurated on October 24, 2017 The tunnel is located in the Yanango creek, a place that links Tarma with La Merced. This ravine is frequently acolmatada by rains and huaicos generating blockages in the route, so that periodically is invested in the reconstruction of bridges.

The project was formulated in 2008, however it was postponed due to lack of feasibility. This was observed since August 2008. It was approved in 2014 with the formulation of the technical file. The project execution is under the responsibility of the Yanango Consortium, (constituted by the companies Constructora MPM S.A and Construcciones y Promociones Balzola SA.
